Next Ferry

iOS App

As a regular commuter to the Manly ferry services (and someone slightly OCD when it comes to anything related to time) I always struggle a bit when I have to figure out timetables.

The colours chosen are vibrant and serve a purpose. Using two colours who contrast each other helps users identify where they are and where they're going.

The vibrant orange represents a morning colour, warm and inspiring, perfect fit for a majority of people leaving Manly to go to the office in the City of Sydney.

The deep blue is calming and represents the time of the day it usually is (evening) when users leave their office in the City to get back to Manly.

I always find it disappointing when an application tailor for "everyone". Mobile phones are personal and incredibly smart on their own, why should I use a generic app that doesn't represent me?

With this in mind, I went down the path of designing an app with a strong focus on the Manly community. I've incorporated photography of Sydney I took over the years, either illustrating the City or the beach lifestyle. These images are once again, queues for user's brain to identify where they're located and where they're going.

You don't need words to communicate an idea, images speak for themselves and are a great way of keeping the noise level of the application to a minimum.
